Shape and Gage Performance Review

A starting point in any objective assessment of a rolling mill performance is to evaluate and benchmark the quality of its output with respect to its key parameters. We emphasize this step with focusing on two important outputs: gage and strip shape.

The strict adherence of steel customers to industry standards makes these two parameters of outmost importance to the mill operations. Good strip shape is also a necessity for the downstream operations affecting their throughput. We meet this challenge with our excellent data acquisition and data analysis capabilities.

As a starting point to our review process we can connect with your level-II database directly, or we can work with your level-II engineers to obtain the necessary data for such analysis, which are typically deviation signals per length or I-units in case of shape. If there is no shape measuring devices on-line, we can work with you to obtain samples off-line and make manual measurements.

In addition to providing a statistical summary of gage and shape performance we could also pursue root cause analysis on gage and shape defects or investigate the automatic gage and shape control systems.
